LUCIA: A Light Born to Shine

A FAITHFUL WIFE – A LOVING MOTHER – THE LIGHT OF THE KINGDOM

A Woman Who Walked With God With Silent Prayer

After decades of whispered prayers and silent tears, her answer finally came — though in her advanced age, hope had long since gone quiet. Lucia moved to the U.S. with her daughter Jo, now a pastor. A few years later, her estranged husband arrived, seeking reconciliation.

But in that reunion, Lucia faced a sacred truth: the love she once knew lived only in memory, not in her heart. Through the years, even with four children at her side, other men had offered her the peaceful, tender life she’d never known. She turned them away. Her family’s creed held her fast: “For richer or for poorer, stand up where you fall.”

And so, she stood — not because her heart was full, but because her covenant was sure.

Lucia’s life teaches us this: God’s delays are not His denials. Walking with God isn’t measured by feelings that come and go, but by faithfulness when the heart is weary. Sometimes the miracle isn’t in getting what we prayed for, but in becoming who He calls us to be while we wait.

She never received the romance she dreamed of. Yet she kept something greater — a character refined by obedience; integrity forged in surrender.

This is how a woman walks with God: not on paths free of pain, but with steps of faith, taken one after another, until standing itself becomes worship.

When we stand where we fall, God meets us there — not always to restore what was lost, but to reveal who we are in Him.

Our Last Conversation — Three Months Before She Passed

It was a quiet afternoon. I was sitting by her bedside. Her hands were thin now, but steady.

I said, “Mom, after all those years of praying, do you have any regrets?”

She looked at me and smiled.

And said “I prayed for decades. By the time God answered, I was already old. I had already given up hope. I thought He forgot me.”

She paused.

Then continued.

“When I moved to America with your sister Jo, I thought my life was over. When your father followed me to reconcile… I thought, this is it. God answered. But God showed me something else. The love I had for him… it was only here,” she pointed to her head, “not here anymore,” and touched her heart.

“You know, even when I had four children, many men offered me a peaceful life. A loving life. I said no every time. Not because I wasn’t tempted. I was tired, son. So tired. But we have a saying in our family — ‘For richer or for poorer, stand up where you fall.’”

“Tumayo ka kung saan ka nadapa.”

“So, I stood. Not because I was strong. Because I made a vow before God.”

I started to held unto my tears, she is weaker than the last time I saw her. She held my hand tighter. This might be it, son, its getting closer.

“Do not pity me, son. Don’t say I wasted my years. God did not waste them. He was teaching me how to walk with Him. Walking with God is not about getting what you prayed for. It’s about staying faithful while you wait.”

She looked out the window from her bed and uttered.

“My prayer was answered late, but my character was answered on time. Tell them that. Tell them that when you stand where you fell, God will meet you there. He always does. That is my testimony.”

That was our last conversation.

Three months later, she went home to be with the Lord — a woman who truly walked with God.

This is just a portion of her story that I included in my book:
