God’s Law and Beyond
Hallelujah! Lift up your voices, children of light, for we gather once more to delve into the very heart of our Creator, to stand in awe before the mystery and majesty of God: Law and Beyond! In our earthly struggles, we often speak of judgment as a harsh gavel, a final decree of condemnation. But oh, how limited are our human perceptions when we try to grasp the infinite wisdom of our God!
In many traditions, yes, there is this delicate balance, a righteous judgment that walks the tightrope between unwavering justice and boundless mercy. Some see it as the inescapable call to accountability, where every deed, every thought, every whisper of our hearts is brought into the light. Others, in their profound hope, see it as the glorious opportunity for redemption, a divine hand extended even in the shadow of our failings.
Even in the natural world, we see the echoes of this truth. The very fabric of creation testifies that our choices carry weight, that actions unleash consequences that shape the landscape of our lives. Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind; plant the seed of goodness, gather a harvest of joy. This is judgment in its simplest form, the unbreakable law of cause and effect.
But in God’s spiritual abode, revealed to us through the saints who walked before, illuminated by the Holy Spirit, and confirmed in the sacred texts and the whispers of our believing families, we come to understand a truth far grander. We learn that God is not just a distant, austere judge, but a loving Father, our provider, our healer! Yet, let no one be mistaken: this same loving Father, whose heart yearns for our wholeness, also judges when we turn to wickedness, when we grieve His tender Spirit.
Oh, His judgment is complex, a tapestry woven with threads of truth we can barely comprehend! We rely on the wisdom of those illuminated by His grace, waiting for that glorious moment when personal revelation dawns in the fullness of time. The Bible declares, without wavering, that God’s judgment flows from His very essence – His holiness, His unblemished justice. And it is our sinfulness, that stubborn rebellion that creates the chasm, separating us from His glorious presence. Adam and Eve knew it. The generation of Noah knew it. And countless others throughout history have come to understand that judgment descends when we, by our choices, cause the heart of God to ache.
Yet, hear this, beloved, and let it resonate in the deepest chambers of your being: God’s burning desire is to be with humanity! His longing is for us to reflect His image, to be the beings of light and love He created us to be. His profound, unfathomable love for humankind remains, an eternal flame that no sin can extinguish. When Adam and Eve sinned, humanity continued. When the deluge swept the earth, a family was saved, and humanity continued. God, in His infinite mercy, has no plan to utterly eradicate humanity from the face of the earth! No! Instead, He provided a glorious, divine way for reconciliation, through His chosen Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer!
This, my friends, is the heart of the Gospel! God will never hate His children. He loves the sinner with an everlasting love, desiring to redeem them, to save them, to draw them close into eternal communion. But mark this well: He hates the sin! He hates the corruption, the darkness that seeks to defile His precious creation.
God’s judgment, therefore, is not merely about punishment, but about the magnificent work of rebuilding humanity to its perfection! It is about restoring that broken relationship with Him, mending what sin has torn asunder. As the prophet Ezekiel declares in chapter 18, verse 30: “Therefore I will judge you, each one according to your own ways, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent! Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall.” It is a call to turn, to return, to rise from the dust of our failings!
The ultimate goal of our loving God is nothing less than our transformation! He desires to make us more like Jesus, to mold us into the very image of His Son, and ultimately, to draw us into perfect fellowship with Himself for all eternity! This truth shines forth like a beacon in 2 Peter 3:9, which proclaims: “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
Let us speak to our heart and the heaven above will listen.
Oh, consider this, my precious ones! Without God’s unimaginable patience, without His loving hand continually outstretched, waiting for us to draw closer to His divine standard, humanity would have long been lost, a mere footnote in the annals of time. But He waits! He calls! When we take that first step of faith, when we turn our hearts towards His standard, when we believe in His redemptive power, He will do the rest! He will bridge the gap, He will cleanse the stains, He will lift us up to His perfect standard. Then, and only then, shall we be fully saved, fully restored, fully reconciled, and forevermore in His glorious presence! Let this be our hope, our anchor, our truth! Amen!
